Discovering the Lied-singers of tomorrow!

The international competition "Das Lied" was founded in 2009 by Thomas Quasthoff and has established itself as one of the most important singing competitions worldwide within a very short time. The aim is to promote great Lied singers of the younger generation. It also offers the opportunity for audiences, organizers, festivals and agencies to discover the voices of tomorrow. In addition to prize money of 40,000 euros, the prize winners are given concerts in internationally renowned concert halls. Previously based in Berlin, the competition has been organized by the Heidelberger Frühling Liedzentrum since 2017.

The prize winners of the 2023 competition are tenors Laurence Kilsby and Tae Hwan Yun (1st Prize), soprano Alexandra Flood (3rd Prize), baritone Lars Conrad (Audience Award) and pianist Yuhao Guo (Prize for Liedpianist). The 2nd Prize was not awarded.

The competition repertoire contained selected songs by Aribert Reimann, Franz Schubert, Robert Schumann and Viktor Ullmann. In addition to Thomas Quasthoff, founder of the competition, the top-class jury included James Taylor, Richard Stokes, Juliane Banse, Bernada Fink, John Gilhooly, Justus Zeyen, James Baillieu and Helga Machreich-Unterzaucher. All competition rounds and the prize ceremony were streamed live on Youtube and the Website.

The next edition of the competition will take place in 2025.
